11/3 + 11/10: all the small (clay) things (hand building)

In this 2 night workshop, students will hand build all the small clay things you can imagine. bolos, incense burners, earrings, ornaments, fermentation weights,
candle holders, ashtrays, soap dishes- the list is endless! Students will be provided with 5 lbs of tan or cream speckled clay as well as 6 high fire wire hooks (for earrings, ornaments, ect)

The first night of class will be a crash course into the fundamental pinching, coiling and slab rolling techniques of hand building. We will get to work right away on
our ideas. Students can aim to make 2-20 pieces depending on size, function and intricacy of designs. The hand building portion must be finished during the first 2 (option to work until 10) hour class so that pieces can be set to dry and fired for the following week.

The second and last night of class will be focused on surface decoration. Students will have access to a rainbow of underglaze colors and these glaze options: clear (for use over underglazes or plain clay) white & black. As with the first class, students can stay until 10 pm and work at the studio. Pieces will be fired and ready for pickup in approximately 2 weeks.
